Freud Doccumentary Reflection
I found this particular doccumentary to be very interesting. Before watching it i never heard of Bernays and i barely knew anything about Freud. There were many points that were made in the film that i found to be very interesting. First, i found it remarkable how Bernays originated the idea that people don’t just purchase something, but rather it is more on a personal and emotional level when they make their decision. The way he came to this realization astonished me. Along with this, the fact that he created the psychological theory of how to appeal to the masses was amazing as well. I feel that he got a kick start on these ideas and realizations from his mentor Freud. This is true because Freud came up with the idea that inside all humans there are dangerous and intrinsic values. Because of this Bernays was able to work on this idea and come up with the conclusions that he did. Finally, as stated in the film, an American’s primary duty is to be a consumer rather than a citizen and I feel this is still the main principle to this day.
